TYCO AND TELEMETRIC TEAM UP TO OFFER PIPELINE LEAK DETECTION SYSTEM

Boise, ID – August 28, 2001 – Telemetric Corporation, a leading provider of customizable, wireless remote monitoring and control systems, is pleased to announce the launch of field trials for a web-enabled leak detection and reporting system developed for TraceTek, a division of Tyco Thermal Controls.

“Telemetric is excited to be working closely with a large, global company such as Tyco International on this important project,” said Scott Schoenherr, CEO of Telemetric. Tyco is the world's largest manufacturer of electrical and electronic components.

The new wireless system uses a solar powered MicroRTU™, combined with a highly advanced TraceTek sensor that was co-developed by Telemetric and Tyco Thermal Controls. When a leak is detected, the MicroRTU sends a data packet over the cellular non-voice network to the Telemetric Network Operations Center (NOC), which has created a secure web site exclusively for Tyco. When the Telemetric NOC receives the message, a page, email or cell phone call will notify controllers or supervisors of the status of the leak. Depending on the severity of the leak, the system will notify a single person or a large group. This entire process is completed within seconds of detection.

“We see this wireless system as a significant breakthrough in remote, wireless leak detection and reporting,” says Ken McCoy, General Manager of Tyco Thermal Controls’ TraceTek Products division. Tyco will use the reporting system to monitor liquid hydrocarbon leaks from pipelines, valves, flanges and other buried fittings.

The Telemetric MicroRTU system is significantly less expensive than other remote monitoring devices and detects leaks at a much lower level than SCADA systems. Telemetric provides an intelligent website that that gives users full access to monitor and control equipment from any PC without having to purchase any software. The system is the most economical solution for remote monitoring and control with the best coverage in North and South America.
