KANSAS CITY
POWER AND LIGHT PURCHASES PRODUCTS FROM TELEMETRIC
Boise, ID – August 28,
2001 –Telemetric Corporation, a leading provider
of wireless remote monitoring and control systems, announced today
that it is providing wireless units to Kansas City Power and Light
(KCP&L), to be used for remote monitoring of distribution
system equipment down line from its substations. KCP&L wants
to use the Telemetric MicroRTUs to monitor this equipment in the
outlying areas of their service territory to decrease their dependency
on time-consuming live inspections.
“This order from KCP&L is another
validation of the broad range of applications for Telemetric’s
technology,” said Scott Schoenherr, Telemetric’s CEO.
He added, “By using the Telemetric MicroRTU, KCP&L will
be able to keep more equipment on line more of the time, thereby
provide better power quality during their system’s peak
load times.”
In an effort to cut costs and increase
the reliability of their equipment, KCP&L determined that
the most cost-effective way to monitor and control it would be
to use a wireless device. After completing a considerable amount
of research, they determined that the Telemetric MicroRTU would
meet their requirements. The MicroRTU will monitor and control
remote distribution equipment by using the control channel of
the public cellular system to send an alarm notification when
the equipment changes from one condition to another.
“This monitoring device will reduce
the number of live inspections,” states KCP&L Delivery
President William Downey. “The benefits of continual monitoring
of our distribution equipment will provide improved operating
performance, voltage regulation and voltage balance. The result
will be reduced operating expenses and improved service quality
to our customers.”
