KANSAS CITY POWER AND LIGHT SPONSORS TELEMETRIC WIRELESS DNP COMMUNICATIONS PRODUCTS
Boise, ID – October 29,
2001 –Telemetric Corporation, a leading provider
of wireless remote monitoring and control solutions, announced
today that Kansas City Power & Light (KCP&L) is supporting
development of Telemetric’s industry standard wireless DNP
communications products. KCP&L is providing technical and
financial resources to assist Telemetric in development of two
important DNP products that will greatly reduce costs and improve
efficiencies for electric utilities. These solutions will integrate
with various intelligent devices from the leading manufacturers
such as controllers for capacitor banks, automated switches, voltage
regulators, load tap changers and reclosers.
DNP-RTM (Remote Telemetry Module) is
a DNP 3.0 cellular communications module designed to offer low-cost
communications for any DNP 3.0 compliant intelligent device such
as controllers for capacitor banks, voltage regulators and reclosers.
This new product offers wireless communication options for monitoring
and controlling equipment in areas that do not have cost-effective
communications.
SCADA-Xchange is a software service Telemetric
provides to access Telemetric products through SCADA applications.
SCADA-Xchange provides a DNP 3.0 communication link between Telemetric’s
Network Operation Center and SCADA systems. With SCADA-Xchange,
any device that is connected to a Telemetric product becomes a
DNP node that can be monitored or controlled by SCADA applications.
Carl Goeckeler, KCP&L Lead Distribution
Automation Engineer, has been instrumental in helping Telemetric
bring the DNP products to market. Mr. Goeckeler is a recognized
leader for his work in distribution automation projects, authoring
several papers on capacitor automation and helping define capacitor
automation products currently on the market today.
Bill Downey, president of KCP&L Delivery,
said, “The Telemetric DNP communication solutions show economic
and technical promise for KCP&L to lower its automation costs
and expand communications to equipment not previously automated.
KCP&L believes this wireless DNP communication option will
open distribution automation options for capacitor banks, regulators,
reclosers, switches, fault indicators and other applications for
monitoring and control. This automation ultimately helps us improve
our efficiency and power quality to our customers.”
Scott Schoenherr, CEO for Telemetric
states “We are very excited to be working with KCP&L
on this project. KCP&L is a proactive utility working to improve
automation, and with a diverse set of equipment, they are an excellent
partner to provide expertise for our DNP solutions. Telemetric
will be first in the industry providing a complete, widespread
wireless DNP solution from a device in the field to a SCADA system”.
