TELEMETRIC
AND G&W ELECTRIC PARTNER TO PROVIDE WIRELESS COMMUNICATION FOR RECLOSERS AND SWITCHES
August 26, 2002 – Boise,
ID – Telemetric Corporation, the industry leader
in providing utilities with affordable wireless solutions for
communicating with down-line equipment, and G&W Electric,
a manufacturer of reclosers and switch gear have teamed together
to offer an integrated solution for communicating with distribution
equipment in and beyond the substation. The G&W and Telemetric
combined solutions help improve power reliability, minimize outage
duration and reduce lost revenue.
When integrated with G&W reclosers
and switches the Telemetric devices provide a low-cost, high-value
way to automate and report events, including change in open/close
status, voltage readings, equipment trouble, local/remote mode
and hot line tag switch status. The device comes standard with
a 4.5 amp hour battery backup to provide operating power during
outages. Unlike any product in the past, the G&W/Telemetric
solution allows communication with equipment in and beyond the
substations where it was previously difficult and costly to implement.
An integrated cellular radio provides two-way communication between
the field units and the utility system operators.
Numerous utilities have already deployed
the solution. “A municipal near Chicago recently deployed
an automatic source transfer switch with a Telemetric MicroRTU.
Now, anytime a reportable event occurs with the switch at this
critical location, the Telemetric unit provides an immediate notification
to the operations center. The benefit for the utility is minimizing
outage durations and isolating problematic equipment, which leads
to improved customer satisfaction,” explains Scott Schoenherr,
Telemetric CEO.
About Telemetric
Telemetric is the industry leader in low-cost wireless solutions,
providing utilities with an affordable option for communicating
with down-line equipment and machinery. Their solutions have helped
nearly 100 utilities control costs and improve customer service
by allowing them to cost-effectively monitor, control and automate
equipment located beyond their substations. By utilizing the "control
channel" of the cellular network, Telemetric allows customers
to send small packets of data over the existing public cellular
network with far better coverage and at a much lower cost than
other methods of communication. Telemetric is privately held with
headquarters in Boise, Idaho. For more information, please visit
