Meter Data Communication
Telemetric offers end-to-end solutions for real-time
remote meter reading using efficient and cost-effective digital cellular data
communication technologies. We provide an open, standards-based solution to
support today's advanced power meters and provide timely meter data to a variety
of applications – from SCADA to meter data management systems.
Our solutions are ideal for commercial & industrial metering, interconnect,
or other meter applications where interval meter data is required immediately.
Our "smart packet" technology delivers interval meter data using very
cost-effective wireless packet data plans.
The Telemetric Remote Telemetry Module™ (RTM) is a cost-effective
solution for remote reading and control of any meter that supports the new
ANSI C12.18/19 protocol. Telemetric also supports meters with DNP3.0 protocol
with another RTM model. The RTM includes an integrated two-way radio
that communicates using the digital cellular data network with excellent
coverage throughout North America.
The model C12-RTM-GSM communicates using General Packet Radio Service (GPRS)
over the GSM cellular data networks. The units can be installed anywhere
Cingular/AT&T GPRS or EDGE service is available. They are ideally suited
for load profile metering or other applications requiring frequent reads,
larger amounts of data or minimum latency.

The C12-RTM is supported by extensive cellular coverage in North America
by Cincular/AT&T plus all of their roaming partners. No license or local
cellular account is required.
Standard GPRS authentication and encryption is augmented with additional
security features at Telemetric.
Features
- The RTM reads the meter on a user defined schedule and transmits
the data to the secure Telemetric Network Operation Center (NOC).
In addition the RTM is continually monitoring the meter for alarms or events.
When an alarm or event is detected a pager or email notification can be sent
to multiple individuals.
- The RTM returns all of the meter values the user has configured or set
up in the meter and included in the C12-RTM profile.
- Secure two-way communications allow direct meter reads and
control of the meter by authorized personnel.
- The RTM intelligent processor uses ‘smart packet’ technology to
minimize the digital cellular network traffic, allowing support of frequent
meter data reads using cost-effective cellular data service plans.
- Meter data is sent to the secure Telemetric Network Operations Center,
and optionally to the utility meter billing or forecasting system.

Application Details
The C12-RTM communicates via a standard RS-232 serial connection to the meter.
The RTM functions as the master, in the master-slave relationship,
polling the meter for alarms or events on a routine schedule.
When an alarm or event takes place, which the user has requested notification on,
the RTM communicates the information to the Telemetric NOC, which then passes
the alarm and data to the user’s application.
The C12-RTM will read the meter on a user defined schedule from 1 minute to
multiple days and transmit the data to the Telemetric NOC.
The RTM returns all of the meter values the user has configured or set up
in the meter and included in the C12-RTM profile.
Access to the meter data can be gained using
Telemetric’s Intelligent Web Server Applications. The data can be viewed
with a standard browser application by logging onto a secure account or
accounts for each user.The hosted applications have multiple levels
of access and the administrator has the ability to grant access to additional
users. The access levels range from view only to the ability to read and reset meters.
Telemetric can also deliver custom application interfaces to
feed data to the customers SCADA or meter data management system.
Integration kits, including device specific profiles, are available for most
popular meters to facilitate simple and easy Installation. Once installed,
devices are immediately accessible using the secure web application.
