Automate Distribution Line Switches
Improve reliability, minimize outage
durations, save overtime labor, and reduce lost revenues with
the Telemetric MicroRTU. By implementing a MicroRTU, you can save
on average $1,400 per year.1 It is an affordable solution
to extend SCADA to any switch currently not automated or where
automating is difficult to cost justify. The MicroRTU is designed
to monitor digital and analog inputs from a switch controller
and remotely control the switch motor. An integrated cellular
radio provides two-way communications with the fully automated
Telemetric Intelligent Web Server, which can provide event based
actions or automated user notifications - via pager or email.
Devices can be managed as a group, such as a feeder line, individually
from the Telemetric secure web application or directly by your
SCADA system using the Telemetric SCADA-Xchange service.
Benefits of Switch Automation
- Minimize outage duration and reduce lost revenues
- Improve customer satisfaction
- Isolate problematic equipment
- Optimize efficiencies for field crews and dispatch personnel
for remotely opening and closing switches or auto-sectionalizing
- Initiate control and view status from a secure Web application
or your SCADA system with SCADA-Xchange
- Wireless communication is widely available (even in remote rural
areas), and the low cost cellular and data services begin at $6
per month and utilizes the existing public cellular data network,
leveraging an existing infrastructure that is accessible nationwide.
Application Details
- The MicroRTU is configured with up to 6 digital inputs, 4 analog
inputs and 6 mechanical output relays and works with any switch
model with digital I/O or analog inputs.
- Installation is made easy with specific switch model wiring
harnesses. Once installed, devices are immediately accessible
on a secure web application.
- All devices come with access to a secure web application that
enables configuration of the rules for establishing notifications.
For example, upon a source transfer event, send an email to dispatch@utility.com.
- The Web application can be configured to send notifications
upon momentary or permanent state changes.
- A 4.5 Amp hour battery backup provides operating power during
outages.
- For switch controllers with serial I/O see the Telemetric DNP-RTM
which can monitor up to 99 DNP points and notify if these points
change.
